Little Sister Resister

It wasn't a blue wave. It wasn't even a blue tsunami (or "bluenami" as pundits favored).

It was a frickin' rainbow-hued blue hurricane washing over a blue volcano whose magma was spilling onto a blue atomic bomb blast.

It's a delicious feeling. I've been floating. Who else is riding the thermals, the mind rippling with the possibilities?

Gerrymandering Failed

Republican'ts tried to cheat by redrawing districts in the middle of the normal 10-year interval. Guess what? Dems won those seats anyway.

In Alabama, the district that was at the center of the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, a district that was redrawn with the express goal of disenfranchising Black voters, Rep. Shomani Figures won re-election anyway.

In Florida, four districts were redrawn to reflect an electorate that🍊would've won by double digits in 2024. Three of the four newly drawn districts went Blue anyway.

In North Carolina's 1st District, lines were redrawn to favor Repugs. Democrat Don Davis won re-election anyway.

And in Texas, where the whole gerrymandering thing began with the Orange Menace demanding five more Red districts, the plan backfired spectacularly. Of the five redrawn districts, four of the five seats were won by Dems. And not only that, the Repugs lost two of their own seats.

Billionaires Failed

Yeah, go ahead. Try it, Elmo. Try pouring half a billion dollars into elections in an attempt to buy them.

What won these elections? Fed-up, motivated, organized voters. Qualified, caring, kind, candidates.

The Biggest Flips

South Carolina. Annie Andrews is the first Dem Senator in two decades.
Also South Carolina. Nancy Lacore, a Navy admiral fired by the corrupt Pete Kegsbreath, flipped Nancy Mace's Congressional seat.
North Carolina. Dem Roy Cooper soundly defeated his opponent for a Senate seat. In fact, the Repug machinery pretty much gave up a few weeks before the election and stopped running ads. Can you believe both Carolinas went Blue?!
Texas, An historic election. Sentator-elect James Talarico flipped his Senate seat Blue for the first time in 30 years.
Also Texas. In a 1-2 punch, Texans embraced Dem candidate Gina Hinojosa for governor, the first Dem since Gov. Ann Richards left in 1994. Buh-bye you slime ball Abbott. You get the Ab-boot! Texas is as blue as that big wide sky.
Ohio. Amy Acton took that trash Vivek Ramaswamy to the curb. Good riddance, Vivek. May your face never be seen again. Acton is the first woman to be elected as governor in Ohio.
Also Ohio. Jon Husted had his *ahem* ass handed to him by Senator-elect Sherrod Brown, who won back the seat he lost in 2024.
Iowa. Josh Turek won Joni Ernst's Red Senate seat after she chose not to run for reelection.
Maine. Troy Jackson defeated 30-year incumbent, spineless Sen. Susan Collins. Bye Suzie!
Georgia. Keisha Lance Bottoms took the governorship in a huge win.
Also Georgia. Jon Ossoff won his Senate re-election campaign handily.
Kansas! Kansas hadn't elected a Democrat Senator since 1932. Almost a century, folks. Kansans did it by electing Adam Hamilton!
Mississippi. This one is still too close to call, but a Democrat is poised to take the Senate seat in Mississippi. MISSISSIPPI, people! As of this writing, Dem Scott Colom has a 65-vote lead over Cindy Hyde‑Smith, the incumbent (what does that word mean, anyway?). 96% of the votes have been counted, and a lot of the outstanding votes will be coming from blue counties. I'm on pins and needles. Deep, deep Red Mississippi hasn't had a Democrat Senator since 1989.

Delicious Defeats

Any defeated Republican is a good defeated Republican, but our goodbyes are especially sweet for these idiots:

Susan Collins. Take your faux "concerns" and stick 'em where you stuck your votes.
Greg Abbott. Wheel yourself into the great West Texas sunset, you vile loser.
Vivek Ramaswamy. You are a dispicable human being. Scoot back under your rock and stay there.
Darline Graham. She was way in over her head trying to fill brother Lindsey's clown shoes. South Carolinians did not like having this person thrust upon them. She's a footnote now.
Mike Rogers. Bigot and all-around hateful person deserves to be taken to the trash heap.
Hey, Jon Husted! Don't let the screen door hit your ample ass on your way out!
A possible defeat: the odious Lauren Boebert is trailing her opponent for Colorado's 4th District. Take a long ski off a short ramp, Lauren!

The Melting Pot

America's back, baby!

This is maybe the best part of this historic election. The cherry on top. Look at this rainbow of new Members of Congress.

The first Black woman governor ever elected. Keisha Lance Bottoms will lead Georgia well.
The first openly gay male senator. Chris Pappas won his New Hampshire senate seat, his husband by his side as he gave his victory speech.
The first openly gay member of Congress from Indiana, JD Ford flipped Indiana's 5th District seat.
The first Native American governor! Deb Haaland trounced her New Mexico opponent. This is Haaland's second "first," as she was also the first Native Secretary of the Interior under Joe Biden.
Another Native American first: The first Native American female U.S. Senator, Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, won her Senate seat.
The Alaska race is still up in the air, with Native Mary Peltola leading her opponent by a fraction of a point as of press time. It will take days or weeks to sort out the results. Go, Alaska!
The first woman elected governor of Ohio, Amy Acton.
The first Latino governor of Texas: Gina Hinojosa, the new Governor of the great state of Texas. I knew you could do it, Texas!
The first woman elected to the Senate from South Carolina, Annie Andrews. Huge!
Juliana Stratton, who joined sister Senator Tammy Duckworth as Indiana's junior Senator. The state is the first to have two women of color in the Senate at the same time.
The first Latino elected as governor in California, Xavier Becerra.
The first Muslim elected to the Senate, Abdul El-Sayed won his seat in Michigan.
The first Gen Z Member of Congress: Ethiopian immigrant Melat Kiros won her seat in Colorado.
Alabama's first transgender state House member, Alison Montgomery, flipped Alabamas 25th state House district. Yes. You read that right. Ala-fucking-bama.
Stacy Plaskett was elected the U.S. Virgin Islands' first black woman governor.

Six Black governors were elected last night – this after there had been only three in the last 250 years! Besides Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia and Stacy Plaeskett in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Wisconsin elected Democrat David Crowley, its first black governor; Maryland Democrat Gov. Wes Moore won reelection; Republican Byron Donalds was elected Florida's first Black governor, and Nevada also elected its first Black governor, Dem Aaron Ford.

Now What?
